The V Family | South Portland Maine Family Photographer

October is a funny month. One day it’s 50 degrees, and the next day it is 80. But days like the one I had with Valerie, Ryan, and Jack are much less expected than the typical thirty degree temperature swing we Mainers are used to in the fall. On this day, the thermometer said 40, but with the wind chill it easily felt close to the single digits, and although I’ve photographed in the dead of winter on the beach, this was hands down the coldest shoot of my career.  Looking at sweet 8-month old Jack, his mom Valerie, and dad Ryan though, you’d never know it. When you have a day like this, you can cry or you can roll with it, and having traveled two hours for their session, these three just rolled with it. I don’t think I heard a peep from Jack until the very end of our time together, and he was wide eyed and smiling for most of the session, despite literally almost being blown over. Valerie and Ryan stayed calm, cool, and collected, and instead of finding stress from the situation, found comfort in snuggling up with each other and their little guy and making the best of it.  It is a story to tell for sure, and an awesome memory of their first family photos since Jack’s newborn session last spring. Here are my many favorites from our adventure together. I already can’t wait for next year – but maybe we could plan for July. 🙂
