The L Family {Higgins Beach} | Scarborough Maine Family Photographer

Ohhhh boy I don’t even know where to start with this one. I am SO excited to share photos of the “L” Family from last weekend at Higgins Beach. If you follow my work, you know I’m a big fan of candid and playful sessions, and this one was all about that and capturing the beautiful chaos of life with five kids. To start, I’m going to back up for a hot minute to share how I know this family. Many years ago I was a pretty active participant on “The Knot” family of message boards. After meeting friends on The Knot as I was planning my wedding, and moving over to The Nest after getting married, I joined The Bump when I became pregnant. (I’m giggling because I’m not even sure if some of these still exist!). On The Bump, I was a member of the September 2010 babies group, where I met Liz. Our group was pretty tight knit, and now, twelve years later, many of us are still friends, both in person, and online. I had the pleasure of meeting Liz in person just once when our kiddos (my Molly, and her oldest, Quinn), were just toddlers, and shortly after, she and her family moved Deer Isle, about three hours north of Portland. Since then, she and John have welcomed four more babies to their crew – Charlie, Wesley, James, and Abby, and while we haven’t connected in person since that day many years ago, I’ve stayed in touch with Liz on Facebook and have loved watching her little family grow.

When I opened dates for 2022 Liz reached out asking if I would be willing to take her family photos this spring, and I was so excited to see her again and meet the rest of her crew. We were originally supposed to have our session in April, but Covid had other plans, so she and John were kind enough to move the dates for their trip to Portland and bump our session to early June so we could do the photos then. They chose my favorite beach, Higgins, as their spot, and this place could not have been more perfect for a crew of five island kiddos who love to run, play, and be in the water. Our night was grey and a little chilly, but the color in the sky was beyond dreamy, and the chilly temps did not stop this whole crew from running and playing together on the beach. I love the messy moments, the candid moments, the lovey moments, the details, and all the little moments in between that we were able to capture during our time together.

Liz and John, you have created a beautiful family, and I am so grateful for the opportunity to take your first professional family photos. I have so many favorites from our night on Higgins that was beautiful in so very many ways.
